Black Box Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary photography. Black Box’s juried group photography exhibitions provide important opportunities for emerging and established photographers. Black Box supports and encourages the creative production, exhibition and critical appreciation for contemporary photography.

Each month Black Box hosts a juried group photography show on a different photograhic theme. The gallery provides free printing, matting and framing for all of our photographers who are juried into the exhibition. This allows the gallery to provide a consistant aesthetic during our group show programming throughout the year. It also allows our audience to view the pictures as a cohesive group photography exhibiton. Many of our photographers range from Russia, Germany, Japan, New York, Chicago, London, San Francisco, Korea, Iceland, Los Angeles, Portland, Austraila, China, Houston, Seattle and everywhere inbetween. The gallery is dedicated to supporting and promoting a thoughtfully curated visual photographic experience for our gallery, our photographers and our audience.

Black Box also catalogs and archives all of our juried group photography exhibitions into our flat files at the gallery after the exhibition. This also allows the gallery to continue to promote our juried photographers to local curators, collectors, and the general viewing public.

Black Box Gallery also hosts short exhibitions of local Portland photographers throughout the year. So keep an eye on our programming to see local photographers showcased in smaller group shows and solo shows. Generally these shows are programmed over a short weekend at the end of a month, with artist receptions on a Saturday evening.
